Design Challenge
Biolink needed a redesigned testing guide mobile app for their test devices (COVID-19, Flu A/B, RSV). The goal was to replace the existing app with a rebranded experience that improved usability and provided clear guidance for users during the testing process.
Story Mapping & Low-Fidelity
I collaborated with the engineering lead, product architect lead, and customer experience specialist on story mapping. The CX specialist's expertise guided us in identifying user stories, pain points, and desired features, shaping the app's roadmap and prioritising key functionalities.
I used lo-fi mockups to visualise ideas and userflows, allowing stakeholders to easily understand and provide feedback on potential features.
Hi-Fidelity & User Testing
I created hi-fi designs incorporating new branding elements. To validate effectiveness, I conducted user testing with internal employees who were already using test kits but hadn't been involved in the design process.
I recruited two groups: one for nasal tests, one for saliva tests. These targeted scenarios provided feedback specific to each testing method.
Testing Insights
Test duration and prerequisite info (empty stomach for 30 mins) were missing from the physical test kit
Users needed a shortcut to jump to submitting results or accessing timers
Users should be primed to take actions early, with clear and detailed instructions
Post-Testing Iteration
I communicated missing prerequisite information to the marketing team, added shortcuts for submitting results and accessing timers, and updated texts and illustrations to minimise confusion.
